‘Beautiful Blackstone’

Medium: Watercolour

Gallery: Littleborough Coach House

Preview: Saturday 7th May 12-2pm

Exhibition Continues until 5th June 2016

When Lyndsey moved to Littleborough to start her family in 2015, she instantly fell in love with the local community and the ruggedness of the surrounding landscape. While heavily pregnant, she found herself less active in the Manchester Street Art scene in which she had been involved over the past 10 years, and began exploring other painting techniques at home. Finally settling on watercolour as the most practical medium to express herself artistically, she found she could paint quickly & freely. A small & portable colour box  afforded her the ability to also paint whilst out and about, and in between attending to the needs of her new baby.

Blackstone Edge, the dominant feature on Littleborough’s horizon, had a profound influence on Lyndsey during this time. Blessed with a clear view from her studio window, Lyndsey studied the moor through shifts in daylight and weather – mixing pigments to capture the hues as they changed. This quickly became a routine in which Lyndsey would paint the landscape, sometimes several times a day. The results have been recorded and uploaded to an Instagram feed titled SketchTheView

“To live in Littleborough is to be connected to the Moors, and Blackstone Edge in particular resonates with the people who have contacted me. Suddenly, a series I set up as a personal exercise was bringing me into contact with my neighbours, each with their own memories of Blackstone Edge”

On Saturday 7th May Lyndsey will be previewing her Beautiful Blackstone exhibit from 12-2pm at Littleborough Coachhouse on Lodge Street. Paintings will continue to be on display until 5th June 2016.
